Jump transition effect

Transitions where someone jumps off the ground in one place and comes down in another, the arc of the body carrying straight through the change.

Jump transition effect examples

Dock jump to a mountain lake

Use this prompt

A wide jump off a dock ends in colder, higher water. a wide shot of a person running along a wooden dock and jumping out over flat green water, the camera panning with them, and at the top of the arc the water below becomes a bright turquoise mountain lake ringed with pine and rock, the same body shape falling into it and the splash arriving on the same beat, humid haze replaced by sharp clear alpine light

Rooftop gap to a field

Use this prompt

A leap between roofs lands in the middle of open grass. a wide shot of a person leaping across a narrow gap between two flat rooftops, the camera side on and level, and mid air the rooftops drop out of the frame so they land running in the middle of a wide grass field with the same forward momentum, dust off the roof replaced by seed heads flying up, hard city light turning soft and green

Trampoline into a canyon

Use this prompt

A bounce sends a figure up and they descend into a wider place. a vertical shot of a person bouncing high off a small trampoline in a garden, their body rising past the top of frame, and as they come back into frame falling they are descending toward a wide red canyon floor far below with the same arms out posture, the garden hedge gone from the edges, the fall speed continuing from the rise, soft light turning hard and warm

Jump into another outfit

Use this prompt

One jump changes both the clothes and the room. a vertical shot of a person in plain sports clothes jumping straight up on the spot in a bare room, the camera static at chest height, and at the top of the jump their clothes become a long dark coat and the bare room becomes a warm panelled study, so they land in the coat in the same spot with the same knee bend, cold light turning to low tungsten

Off a wall onto sand

Use this prompt

A street jump lands barefoot on a beach with the same body shape. a vertical shot of a person pushing off a low concrete wall on a grey street, the camera holding them centred as they rise, and at the top of the arc the ground below becomes warm pale sand, so they come down barefoot on a beach in the same crouched landing shape with sand kicking up instead of grit, the arc unbroken, flat overcast light turning to low golden sun

Stair leap into a hall

Use this prompt

A leap down steps lands on a different floor entirely. a vertical shot of a person leaping down a short flight of stone steps, the camera low and tilting up as they rise, and at the peak of the leap the steps behind them are gone and they land on a polished marble floor in a tall echoing hall, knees bending the same way and the landing sound arriving on the same beat, outdoor grey light replaced by high window light

Two jumpers hand over

Use this prompt

A jumper takes off and a different person lands in their place. a wide shot of a person jumping up from a bare sandy court, the camera holding the arc, and at the peak the figure in the air becomes a different person in different clothes who comes down on a wooden gym floor with the same arms and the same landing shape, the sandy court gone, the arc and its speed identical across the change, open sun turning to overhead strip light

Puddle splash handover

Use this prompt

A jump into a puddle ends as a splash in open water. a vertical shot of a person jumping with both feet toward a shallow puddle on wet tarmac, the camera tracking their rise and fall, and as the feet meet the water the surface is open sea instead of a puddle, the splash rising much higher around them and the tarmac gone, the landing posture and the timing of the impact exactly the same, grey light turning bright and blue

Snow landing from a street

Use this prompt

A wide jump from bare pavement comes down into deep snow. a wide shot of a person jumping forward off a kerb on a bare wet street, the camera tracking level with them, and as their feet come down the ground is deep fresh snow rather than pavement, the legs sinking in to the knee and powder bursting up around them, the timing of the impact unchanged, grey rain light turning to flat bright white

Shadow lands first

Use this prompt

The jumper is airborne while their shadow meets a new ground. a vertical shot from low down of a person jumping over the lens across dry gravel, the camera catching their shadow racing along the ground beneath them, and as the shadow crosses the middle of frame the gravel under it turns to bright green grass, the person then landing on grass in the same stride, the shadow shape identical across the change, hard noon light throughout

FAQs

Where can I make a jump transition video?
You can make jump transition clips in your browser on Morphic. Describe the take off, the arc and the landing ground, and Text to Video generates the whole jump in one shot. Frames to Video joins your own take off and landing stills with a matched arc.
What is the jump transition effect?
It is a cut carried by a jump. Someone leaves the ground in one place and lands in another, with the arc of the body, the shadow and the timing of the impact continuing straight through. The moment in the air is where the change happens.
How do I prompt a jump transition?
Say where the jump starts, name the exact frame where the ground changes, and describe the landing with the same body shape and the same impact timing. Then give the new surface a reaction on contact. Without a matched landing shape the jump reads as two clips.
Can I make a jump transition with my own two clips?
Yes. Use Frames to Video with a frame from your take off and a frame from your landing, and describe the arc between them. Filming both jumps from the same height and the same distance makes the generated middle much easier to match.
Which shots work best for a jump transition?
Side on or low angle shots work best, because the arc is visible and the feet leaving and meeting the ground are both on screen. Keep the camera at the same height on both sides, and leave headroom so the peak of the jump stays in frame.
Where in the jump should the change happen?
The peak is the most forgiving, since the body is furthest from any ground and there is least to match. Changing at the landing is the strongest, because the new surface reacts to the impact, but it needs the knee bend and the timing to line up exactly.
